More Cloud, More Security
in 2016, Say CIOs
More than half of CIOs plan to foster a “cloud-first
strategy” for enterprise applications next year, ac-
cording to 92 CIOs and IT leaders surveyed by cloud
access security broker
Bitglassat the recent Gartner
Symposium IT Expo. Perhaps that’s not surprising
since half of the respondents also reported cost sav-
ings in 2015 as a result of using SaaS applications,
such as Microsoft’s Office 365 and Google for Work.
Of course, CIOs also continue to face cloud securi-
ty challenges and hear news of costly security breach-
es. In turn, 87 percent of IT leaders expect their
overall security spending to rise in 2016, and 77
percent plan to bump up cloud security expenditures
for mobile and cloud-based services, according to the
survey. Roughly one in three (34 percent) anticipates
an increase of more than 20 percent in cloud security
spending next year.
Looking to 2016, controlling downloads to unman-
aged devices is the top concern, named by 36 percent
of IT leaders. Also worth noting, a quarter of respon-
dents said evaluating the security capabilities of their
cloud services providers was a top concern. Meanwhile,
shadow IT, which rose to prominence as the most talked
about cloud security concern in 2013 and 2014, has
dropped substantially in the minds of CIOs.

“CIOs now realize that shadow IT is not an em-
ployee attempt at mutiny but a response to the poor
choice of tools provided by IT,” says Rich Campagna,
vice president of products and marketing at Bitglass.
“As the cloud-first mindset has become more com-
monplace, security concerns have shifted to topics like
access from unmanaged devices and external sharing
— common gaps in cloud applications.”
The covert and unauthorized use of applications
is less frequent, as more IT leaders embrace public
cloud strategies, according to the findings. “The stated
strategy for the majority of enterprises is to default to
cloud,” Campagna says.
TNCI, Impact Complete Merger
TNCI Operating Company has announced the
completion of its operational merger with Impact
Telecom. Bob Beaty will serve as president and
CEO of the merged entity, and Laura Thomas,
former CEO of TNCI, will become chairman of the
Board of Directors.
TNCI systems and operations will be combined with
Impact Telecom’s existing infrastructure to form the
new Impact Telecom, which will be positioned to serve
businesses and carriers with retail and wholesale voice,
messaging, cloud and unified communications needs.
“The combined Impact Telecom and TNCI infrastruc-
ture creates a robust nationwide network along with
enhanced product capabilities backed by a dedicated
team of experts. Our customers will notice the differ-
ence,” Beaty said.
“Garrison believes in the growth of this telecom
platform,” said Joshua Brandt, managing director
at Garrison Investment Group. “The operational
combination of Impact Telecom and TNCI repre-
sents a significant milestone in our progress. Both
companies are facilitating a smooth integration,
and we look forward to benefits of the merger for
our customer base.”
