Verizon to buy spectrum in Alaska? |
Sept.. 2, 2010 |
Verizon Wireless filed an application with the FCC to acquire the 700MHz C Block spectrum license covering Alaska, Fierce Wireless reports, according to TeleGeography CommsUpdate.
Verizon will purchase the spectrum from Triad, a company that bought the license during the FCC's 700MHz spectrum auction in 2008.
Triad originally paid around $1.8 million. According to Verizon spokeswoman Nancy Stark, this license will complete Verizon's nationwide 700MHz footprint, and will allow the company to provide voice, data and other wireless services in Alaska.
Verizon does not currently operate a network in Alaska, although it does offer services via a roaming partner. Neither party disclosed what Verizon will pay Triad. |
